What is polarized sunglasses ?

the facts of polarized sunglasses

Polarized sunglasses is an sunglasses that have a filter that reduces glare from reflecting surfaces (water, snow, road pavement) which interfere with vision. They can be highly useful for sports, driving, and fishing by helping you to see more clearly. They provide premium protection against the sun’s harmful rays.

How polarization works.

Polarization works by reduce or block glare that come through the lenses. Because, the sun’s rays reflect light in every direction and when a ray hits a flat surface, the reflected light shines back at your eye which causes glare.

When wearing sunglasses without polarization, the lenses only reduce the amount of light that is transmitted through the lens both horizontally and verticallyIf you choose polarized lenses, though, the glasses absorb horizontal light waves, while still allowing vertical waves to pass through. Basically light only travels in one direction through polarized lenses which then eliminates glare.

Three simple ways to check if the lenses are polarized.

Testing on Mirror.

  1. Find a reflective surface that produces glare when light is shining on it
  2. Use your glasses and stare to the mirror.
  3. Look through the lens and check the level of glare.

Comparing Two Pairs of Sunglasses

  1. Find sunglasses that you know are polarized.
  2. Put the sunglasses you want to test behind polarized one. Therefore, the polarized one should be the closes to the eyes.
  3. Rotate the questionable one by 60 degrees. So there will be overlapping section the one that isn’t.
  4. Look at the overlapping section if it is darker. If it is not darker, then the questionable one is not polarized.

Using Computer Screen

  1. Increase the brightness of your computer screen to the fullest extent.
  2. Wear your sunglasess, sit directly in front of the screen.
  3. Tilt your head right and left, if sunglasses polarized, you will see the brightness will get darker.
