Parts of Sunglasses

  1. End piece – Small parts of the front frame that extend outward from the lenses so the front frame can connect to the hinges.
  2. Rim – The rims lend form and character to your eyeglasses—they also provide function by holding the lenses in place. More types of rim sunglasses can be found here.
  3. Pad arm – The attachment that holds the plastic nose pad in place. Moreover, it makes the glasses conform to the wearer’s nose. Most commonly found on metal frames.
  4. Nose pad – Pieces that help keep the sunglasses in the proper position on the wearer’s face. Therefore, nose pad provides comfort and snug fit to the wearer. Most commonly found on metal and sports frames.
  5. Bridge – The arched portion of the front frame that rests on your nose. So, it bears most of the weight of the glasses.
  6. Top bar – A bar that sits above the bridge and connects the frame around each lens.
  7. Lens – Plastic or polycarbonate material through which the wearer can see.
  8. Screw – Small metal or plastic pieces inserted into the hinge to connect the temple to the frame’s end piece. Therefore, screws location is usually on the bridge to hold nose pads in place.
  9. Hinge – It sits between the end pieces and the temples. Moreover, hinge allow you to close your glasses by folding the temples inward.
  10. Temple – long arms on the side of the frame that fit over your ears for a snug fit.
  11. Ear piece – Oftentimes this is a plastic coating that covers the portion of the temple. Therefore, ear piece position is usually on top of the ear. The earpiece provides added comfort to the wearer and is common among glasses with metal frames.
